The Shadow Report on the Situation of the Sorbian/Wendish Nation in Germany written by members of the Serbski sejm and other individuals was sent to the Committee responsible for minority matters shortly before the visit of a delegation from the Council of Europe in Cottbus, Germany on the 26th of August. The Shadow focuses on education, political and social matters of the Sorbs in Saxony and Brandenburg. It reflects the real situation and various problems which the Sorbian minority deals with. The text can be found and downloaded as a pdf-document under: https://serbski-sejm.de/files/sejm/dokumente/Sorbs_shadow_report_2021_v1.1_210906.pdf. Following the visit to Germany, the Advisory Committee of the Council of Europe will draw up its fifth opinion on the implementation of the Framework Convention in Germany containing specific findings and recommendations for follow-up. The fifth opinion is expected to be adopted and published in 2022. The Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities is one of the most comprehensive treaties designed to protect the rights of persons belonging to national minorities, among which is the Sorbian minority.
